The Sacred Geometry of Water

On Snowflakes, Pentagons, and the Shape Life Chose Before It Chose Anything Else

Thomas Joseph Brown · Chronicles of Alkemix (Substack) · 14 April 2026

A field biologist argues that structured water is real but that the hexagonal ring the industry uses to picture it is the signature of ice, and that the living structure of water is pentagonal.

Writing on his Substack, Chronicles of Alkemix, Thomas Joseph Brown agrees that water has structure, that the structure can be degraded, and that organized water behaves differently in biological systems than bulk water. His correction is to the geometry: the hexagonal ring is the molecular signature of ice, and he proposes that liquid, living water is pentagonal.

  • Accepts the core of the structured water idea: water has structure, the structure can be degraded, and organized water behaves differently in biological systems.
  • Argues the hexagonal ring used to picture structured water is the signature of ice, and that the living structure of water is pentagonal, built on the icosahedron.
  • Cites Martin Chaplin's molecular model, in which liquid water forms pentagonal rings that assemble into dodecahedral and icosahedral clusters.
  • Draws on Del Giudice's coherent-domain physics, George Adams' projective geometry and recent work on ice-nucleating proteins to argue that five-fold order is what resists freezing into ice.
  • Much of the geometric framework is the author's own interpretation rather than settled science. He also critiques water-structuring devices in general, vortex units among them, for promoting the hexagonal picture. The article does not mention President Water.
